Types of Windows
Choose From a Full Range of Window Replacement Options
Windows By Toll offers a selection of windows using a variety of framing materials including vinyl, composite and wood.
Another reason we work with Andersen Windows is it allows us to offer our customers a wide array of window options.
Double hung windows contain a pair of operating sashes that move up and down to allow for ventilation on the top of the window, the bottom or both. Single hung windows have a lower operating sash for ventilation. Either window is perfect for rooms that face walkways, porches or decks because their sashes do not open outward.
Casement windows offer full ventilation from the bottom of the window all the way to the top. These windows swing outward to the left or right, which brings the most fresh air indoors. Casement windows open easily, making them ideal for window replacement above a kitchen sink or anywhere that can be hard to reach.
Picture windows are stationary and cannot be opened. Their permanent placement makes them more energy-efficient and allows for larger sizes than a window that vents. Picture windows are usually used in combination with other windows to maximize a view.
Bay & Bow
Here, three or more windows are combined so they angle outward and beyond your home’s wall. Bay and bow windows can include casement, double-hung or picture units. Since bay and bow windows feature more units, they bring in more natural light and create additional space inside the room where they are installed.
Awning is best suited for openings that are wider than they are tall. The benefits of awning windows are numerous. Its crank out design makes it the perfect solution for hard to reach places like over the kitchen sink and allows for effortless opening and closing. Opening to the outside lets the awning catch breezes and, as a result, provide better ventilation than a slider. The other advantage of these windows opening to the outside is that your rooms can be ventilated even when it is raining as the sash acts just like an awning.
Hopper windows are similar in operation to casement and awning windows as they operate on a hinge, but instead of opening toward the outside, they open into the room. They are a favorite for basements as they use minimal wall space and make use of the full frame when opening and closing. They are excellent insulators as they close against the frame for an airtight seal.
They’re also excellent for ventilation and humidity reduction. They are the perfect choice to eliminate musty odors from the basement and stop stored items from becoming too damp.
Garden windows are three dimensional windows that project outward from the wall. Because they have glass on top and three sides, they bring more light into the living space and provide ventilation. Many people use this space for house plants and window gardens which gives rise to the name. The glass roof which is slopped is to ensure quick water runoff when it rains.
Simple to use because they are designed for horizontal use with easy operation. It’s features with two sashes with at least one of the sashes sliding horizontally to allow for full top to bottom ventilation. Gliders are perfect where there is not room for a swinging sash.
Specialty windows have unique shapes and operating styles which allow for unlimited creativity. Choose from arch windows, a circle window or triangle window that can add beauty and character to your home.
